About the Farm

Located in Elburn, IL, Down Home Flower Farm offers fresh seasonal blooms grown with regenerative practices and without the use of pesticides or other harmful chemicals. By using native plants, hedgerows, and cover crops, and no-till methods we work with nature to build soil health and support biodiversity.
In an effort to reduce our use of plastic, the majority of our seeds are started in soil blocks in a peat-free potting mix. We care for our soil by not using landscape fabric anywhere on our farm, instead we keep the ground covered with mulch or cover crops (living mulch). We use beneficial insects to fight pests and our native hedgerows offer food and shelter for countless birds which, in turn also eat pest. Our flock of chickens provides us with manure to add to our compost, greatly reducing our need for fertilizer. By utilizing many native and drought tolerant species for cut flowers we are able to keep irrigation needs to a minimum.
Our future farm plans include adding a 250 square foot seeded prairie and completing our native hedgerows to fully surround our property.

About Me
My name is Anna and prior to being a flower farmer I was a cellist and teacher in Chicago. After deciding that I needed a change, I went back to school and got a certificate in Sustainable Landscapes and worked for a Landscape Architect helping to design, install, and maintain native landscapes. My family and I moved to Elburn and I launched Down Home Flower Farm in 2025. Thank you for being here and please follow along with our journey here or on Facebook or Instagram!
