About the Farm

Located in Elburn, IL, Down Home Flower Farm offers fresh seasonal blooms grown with regenerative practices and without the use of pesticides or other harmful chemicals. By using native plants, hedgerows, and cover crops, and no-till methods we work with nature to build soil health and support biodiversity.
In an effort to reduce our use of plastic, the majority of our seeds are started in soil blocks in a peat-free potting mix. We care for our soil by not using landscape fabric anywhere on our farm, instead we keep the ground covered with mulch or cover crops (living mulch). We use beneficial insects to fight pests and our native hedgerows offer food and shelter for countless birds which, in turn also eat pest. Our flock of chickens provides us with manure to add to our compost, greatly reducing our need for fertilizer. By utilizing many native and drought tolerant species for cut flowers we are able to keep irrigation needs to a minimum.
Our future farm plans include adding a 250 square foot seeded prairie and completing our native hedgerows to fully surround our property.

The face behind Down Home Flower Farm is Anna Sanders Lee, a former professional cellist and educator. After working in the music world for over a decade, I returned to school and earned a certificate in Sustainable Landscapes while working as an intern to a Landscape Architect. Upon graduation I founded Down Home Flower Farm with the goal of creating a successful flower farm using regenerative practices with a focus on native plants. I firmly believe that flower farming and conservation can go hand in hand and want to use my farm as a working example of that. In addition to farming, I love to help others realize their own gardening dreams by offering consultations and design services. Please follow along on our Facebook or Instagram pages where I post frequent updates on farm and garden life!
